Beckham {2 Months}

As we quickly approach month three, I thought I better get to posting the 2 month update!  At least I was timely the first month, right?

 Lot's has been happening with our little guy over the last month.  Of course he is growing at rapid speeds that are WAY too fast for mommy.

1 month vs. 2 month

Let me start with the most EXCITING update EVER.  SLEEP!! This little champion has been sleeping through the night since he was 5 1/2  weeks old!  If you know anything about Kolten, you know that sleep is something the child does not do...he did not sleep through the night until  he was a year old.  So needless to say, when this guy started giving us 8 solid hours at just a little over 5 weeks we were THRILLED.  He typically goes to bed for the night between 8pm-9pm and then wakes up anywhere between 5am-7am.  

Naps are still a little bit all over the place at this point, so there is really no routine for this at the moment.  I am hoping to get this more scheduled (yes, I just used the word scheduled) so he is more predictable for when I go back to work NEXT WEEK (um, how is that possible?) 

Food:

During month two he was taking 4 ounces of Similac Gentle formula every 3 hours, however after his dr. appointment on 4/11 we moved him up to 5 ounces every 3-4 hours.  He will typically drink about 4.5.  I give him his first bottle upon waking, then he goes every 3-4 hours until the last bottle of the evening which he typically takes about 2 hours after the prior bottle and then goes to bed for the evening.  There is about 1 bottle a day that he really fights..It is weird, he does not really show any belly issues other than that one specific bottle.  We typically have to stop the feeding, give him some gripe water, burp and let him settle, then continue the bottle.  

Growth

Our little man had his 2 month check-up on 4/11/2013.  He was a trooper during his first shots, only crying for a few minutes.  He was a little fussy that afternoon and needed a few extra snuggles from mommy. 

  He weighed 11lb 11oz (40%) and measured 22 3/4" (30%).  He is leaner and longer than Kolten at that age who  weighed 12lbs 7oz (78%) and measured 21 3/4"  (15%).   You can definitely tell them apart.  Check out the compare's below.  Kolten is on the left and Beck on the right of both shots. A few similarities, but oh so different!

He has also started smiling alot more, and this smile will just about MELT YOUR HEART.  He smiles so big his eyes almost completely close and both dimples show up!  SOOOO SWEET!

Squeaker

As for the update on the squeaker..wait... say what? Well, the official term would be Laryngomalacia, better known as a Floppy Larynx.  Still Confused?  It is basically a underdeveloped flap on the vocal chords that makes the baby "squeak." It is the most common reason for noisy breathing in infants.    About a week after Beck's one month mark we noticed he was having alot of trouble taking a bottle.  It almost sounded as if he could not breath out of his nose and eat at the same time.  He would take a couple of drinks from his bottle, then pull back and gasp for air.  It seemed to be getting worse as the days went on, so I dialed up our pediatrician to get him looked at.  Dr. S suspected that it was Laryngomalacia, so he referred us to an ENT in Evansville.  The ENT suspected the same thing or possibly enlarged adenoids.  He then told us that he would need to go in with a scope to confirm and would either remove the adenoids or repair the floppy flap on the larynx. Oh, and this would be under general anesthetic..STOP RIGHT THERE.  You mean you are going to put my barely one month old under for a possible issue?  No offense, this guy was super nice AND honest (even telling us that he last performed this on someone as young as Beck like two years ago) but I would like a second opinion please.  I called Dr. S's office back the next day and asked to be referred to a specialist at Riley.  If anyone was going to perform surgery on my baby it was going to be someone who did 2 babies a day, not 1 baby every two years!   So a couple of weeks later we took the 3.5 hour trip up to Indy for a 15 minute visit with a pediatric airway specialist who informed us it was FOR SURE a floppy larynx and that he would more than likely outgrow it by 18 months and no surgery would be needed.  PRAISE JESUS!   The only possible concern would be if he is loosing too much oxygen while he was sleeping, which we would need to confirm in a 3 hour nap study that we completed last week and are still awaiting results. He did great during the study, but it is really sad seeing your baby with all that stuff hanging off him...I could not imagine having a really sick little one.  God Bless those parents who have to hold and feed there babies hooked up to tubes all the time.  I had a hard time doing it for a day.
